Eligibility & Requirements
Applicants for the UC Davis CREATE-REU Summer Residential Training Program must be:
- A US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- An undergraduate student pursuing a course of study in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline
- The application packet will require submission of official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended and should contain evidence of completion of each of the following courses:
- English composition
- General Chemistry with a laboratory component
- General Biology with a laboratory component
- Calculus
- The application packet will require submission of official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended and should contain evidence of completion of each of the following courses:
- Committed to a continuous nine week residential training program requiring accommodations in UC Davis student housing and participation in living community activities led by a graduate student resident advisor
- Available to participate in all scheduled training activities and events, some of which will be scheduled outside of normal business hours (e.g. before 8am or after 5pm). For example, students will be taking part in research projects that require a flexible schedule and will be attending evening seminars.
Due to the recruitment and outreach goals of the REU program, currently enrolled UC Davis undergraduates are ineligible to apply.
Applying to CREATE-REU
Students will need to submit a complete application packet, including:
- An essay of 500 words or less, describing what the applicant hopes to gain from the CREATE-REU experience and how the CREATE-REU training will tie in to personal, academic and career goals.
- Official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended • Two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from a faculty advisor or instructor in a STEM discipline. Letters should address the applicant’s potential to excel and succeed:
- as a member of an interdisciplinary research team
- in a competitive academic STEM program, as either a baccalaureate or graduate student
- as a member of the professional STEM workforce
- as a member of the broader community, with reference to the applicant’s potential for personal and intellectual growth
Students eligible to apply for the NSF CREATE- REU Training Fellowship should submit a complete packet, as described above with all components postmarked on or before February 10, 2012, to:
